Stockist Interview – One Small Shop

Brand new stockist interview for you to get your teeth in to. This month we chatted to Katie from One Small Shop to learn more about her vegan online marketplace.

1. Tell us a little about the background of the online shop and how it came about?

One Small Shop launched in August 2017 and I had started thinking about it in the summer of 2016.  When I became vegan I started to think about how things were made.  I also gave away all of my leather items and shopping for replacements was a miserable experience.  I eventually found some amazing brands making incredible products but it took a while and it was then that I saw a gap in the market.  I wanted to offer a fun shopping experience for people looking for cruelty-free options.  I also wanted to stock amazing products to show that ethical brands don’t mean a compromise on quality or style.

2. How did you decide on the name?

In the middle of the night with complete insomnia.  I thought I was being really clever – One Small Step / One Small Shop.  No-one really got it but I liked it and it stuck.

3. What products could we expect to find online today?

Skincare, clothing, homewares and accessories for women, men, kids and dogs.  Everything is cruelty-free, ethically made and vegan.  We stock independent British and European brands who are creating amazing products with as little damage to the planet as possible.

4. How would you describe your typical customer?

Just brilliant!  I’ve done loads of events and markets and the customers vary massively but they are always so cool. They want to buy cruelty-free and this means no exploitation of animals, people or the environment, but they still want great products and they know they don’t have to compromise on it.

5. How do you find brands to stock in the shop?

Instagram has been amazing.  Reclaim was the first brand I found and I knew I had to work with them when I saw a picture of Sophie at her local mechanics sifting through tyres. Reclaim Bags are one of our best sellers, they go down so well at every event.

6. If designers want to pitch their products to you, what is the best way to get in touch?

I love to hear from new designers, email me on Katie@onesmallshop.com or via instagram @one_small_shop.
